The Wembley Stallions come to Bristol for a regular season rematch that already has a little extra edge.
When the two sides met earlier this season, the Aztecs came away with a commanding 52-20 win behind backup quarterback Louis Benzey, but Wembley proved far more competitive than many expected after earning promotion from Division 1 to the Premiership. They also became the first team to put points on the board against Bristol this season, ending the Aztecs’ run of three straight games without conceding a single point.
The first meeting did not end quietly either. Post-game comments from Wembley Head Coach Warren Smart sparked conversation online after he suggested the Stallions looked like they were winning the second half and that the Aztecs sideline looked “gloomy” at times. Bristol answered in the way only football can, with a social media clapback featuring Sam Hodge steamrolling a Stallions defender while the Aztecs sideline erupted in celebration.
Now the rematch comes to Shaftesbury Park.
For the Aztecs, this is another opportunity to protect home field, continue their push at the top of the Premiership, and make a statement with the regular season moving toward its decisive stretch. For Wembley, it is a chance to prove their first performance was no fluke and show they can compete with one of the country’s elite programmes.
Expect a physical, high-energy matchup with plenty of storylines, plenty of intensity, and a Bristol crowd ready to make itself heard.
